Prepare to repair

Review by Alwin, 2008-12-14

Within 18 months, the backlight failed - power button blue, screen black. It was sent off to be replaced under Fry's extended warrantee - just the part was replaced, not the monitor. I've seen this occurrence on other reviews of similar HP models. Interestingly, nothing wrong with the power button itself... yet.

Edit: Now, approximately 21 months from the backlight replacement, it failed again. Out of the extended warrantee, it's going to electronic waste disposal.

power button broke

Review by hedbanger, 2008-03-29

5 stars for the monitor. no stars for the power button. no stars for hp. a star for effort for costco.
i loved the monitor. the speakers were weak but are ok when you just want to hear system sounds. i have external speakers for music. i liked the handy usb outlets.
the power button broke a few months ago, close to a year after i got it. hp would do nothing. costco was willing to take it back but i would have needed to return the entire computer bundle. i've been cruise the net every once in a while looking for instructions on repairing the switch. in the meantime, i've been using my dell 2000fp.

I love it. The size is easy for me to view material and it works great with the system I built.

Broken Power Button x2

Review by T. Stofer, 2007-04-16

I purchased my HP Media Center system with the HPf2105 monitor in Feb of 2006. On August 23, 2006 my power button broke and unlike others it dropped on to my desktop! Since it was within the 1 year warranty period, HP promplty sent me a replacement. Here I am 7 months later (just over 30 days outside of my original warranty) and this power button is broken as well. Over an hour on the phone and still waiting to hear what will be done. I'd pass on another HP monitor since they obviously can't last more then 6 months of moderate use.

Excellent value for a true 8-bit monitor

Review by J. CHEN, 2007-04-12

Based on Dr. He's review, I bought this monitor. Even though I paid almost $100 more than the other 22" Acer LCD monitor, I would say that the extra cost is worth it. The Acer LCD is a 6-bit TN panel (probably all 22" panels in the market nowadays are 6-bit TN panels) lacks the accurate color depth I need to do photo editing. The difference in color rendering is visible in casual side by side comparison.

Since this item is sold out from Amazon, you can also consider HP LP2065. Do not be discouraged by the 1" small in size. It is 1600x1200 with almost 10% more in pixels which means more detail. It is also a 8-bit panel and 4:3 aspect ratio, perfect for photo editing. There is a $40 rebate till end of April 2007.

I have taken notes from people who had problem with the power switch. I will make sure that I push that button as lightly as possible. Thanks for the warnings.
